Yaouk
Yaouk is a remote locality nestled within the picturesque Snowy Monaro Region of New South Wales, Australia. Located in expansive grassland valleys, it is embraced by towering mountains on either side of the Murrumbidgee River. Yaouk lies downstream and to the east of the Tantangara Dam, north of Adaminaby, and east of the renowned Kosciuszko National Park. It is also situated south of the Namadgi National Park in the Australian Capital Territory, separated by the rugged Scabby Range.
Approximately 110 kilometers south of Canberra and 75 kilometers northwest of Cooma, Yaouk is a tranquil haven with a population of just 25 people as per the 2016 census. This secluded area is known for its natural beauty, offering stunning vistas of open grasslands and encompassing mountains. Its proximity to both Kosciuszko and Namadgi National Parks provides residents and visitors alike with opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and wildlife observation.
